PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme
Every year, PETRONAS offers sponsorships to deserving students. PETRONAS, through its Education Sponsorship Unit (ESU) is one of the pioneering providers of sponsorship for higher education. It was set up to complement the nation’s effort in developing its technical and professional manpower in its pursuit of economic development, in line with its role as a good corporate citizen.
Sponsorships are available to those with excellent results in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination for undergraduate courses in Malaysia and overseas.
Overseas Programme
Overseas programmes are mainly for those pursuing Engineering, Applied Science, Business Management and Economics. Under the programme, scholars will pursue their pre-university programmes (A-Levels / International Baccalaureate / Australian Foundation / New Zealand Foundation) in Malaysia and must excel prior to pursuing undergraduate studies overseas.
Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Programme
The UTP programme is for those wishing to pursue degree courses in engineering and technology at one of the most prestigious universities in Malaysia. Admission is based on excellent SPM qualifications. Under this programme, students are required to follow and pass the Foundation Programme (1 year) at UTP before proceeding with a Bachelor Programme
Application for PETRONAS Education Sponsorship Programme 2008 based on SPM 2007 will be opened on Wednesday 12 March. You can only apply on-line at http://spmonline.petronas.com.my.

well usually 4 bumis, 6As is enough to enter. And A in addmaths!!!! then if u are eligible, they ll invite u 4 3 days camp. the last day will be interview session, in groups n individual. sometimes 12A students also don get (i donno y, but theyll tell u this). and 4 non bumi, if u get invited, the chances r rare evenif u do wellin everything.. i expect for 10A1 as guaranteed scholarship!

i tell u.. this scholarship kinda sucks. if u r a nonbumi, chances of getting in is almost nil. wat the ‘ex-utp’ said bout guaranteed scholarship if u get 10A1s is rubbish. i got 12A1s k. ex-utp is right bout 1 thing though-chances of non bumi r rare, exceptionally rare. so those non bumis who actually putting hopes in this scholarship, forget it fast. don’t let urself get upset k. if u get it, u r seriously lucky. go celebrate pronto.

everything about this scholarship can be known wit their website..esuonline..how to apply and if u are chosen to go to the interview..
i didnt apply after SPM becoz its tough to be chosen plus i dun like the 3 days camp..i apply petronas rite after matriculation..
if u want to get chosen for the interview..u need to have strong background in curriculum and co-curriculum..balance them both..petronas is searching for students that have potential and balance..
during the interview,u have to speak excellent english..try to stand out among the rest..and bring all the certificate u had..bring a lot of them,it doesnt matter wat the certificate is..just bring them all..
now about their choosing bumis more than non-bumis i dun noe bout tat..but during my interview day..theres only bout..2 non-bumis..
anyway..the scholarship is easily obtain,if u know how to tackle it..try applying for shell..its lot tougher than petronas..

I am a student of Petronas. Lol. In Australia, we are the lowest paid (in physical terms) contract students (not scholarship/loan). Although it does offer you a confirmed job when you finished studying.

I’ve went through an interview with the representatives of Universal College Of Learning UCOL New Zealand and had successfully received an offer letter from Wanganui School of Art and Design New Zealand to proceed my Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design. The duration offered to me is just a year to complete my degree. May I know does PETRONAS sponsor a Computer Graphics Bachelor programme? And is there a chance of successful application for me?

petronas scholar here.. usually petronas would offer scholarship for those whos excell in their spm trial to utp, and overseas. the application is out around this time. imo, getting into utp is rather easy, so i suggest u to go for overseas programme… btw,if u apply for petronas whether utp or ovrc using spm result, u would not get jpa. so, think twice..

My daughter is currently sitting for the exam,she is a hostellite,meaning she stays at the hostel.
My concern is the the deadline shows insensitivity towards these students,the exam will end on the 3rd of Dec.Are these students expected to fill up the form while they are putting all their brain and brawn into preparing and answering the exam papers.Could some one up there please be more considerate.At least give us a week. hi,guys…currently studying in utp.mayb i can help a lil’ bit bout all those probs.i recommend u guys to go to www.utp.edu.my or petronas website to get all those info esp when to apply, the requirements.in utp, we have mainly engineering program(electrical & electronics, mechanical,civil,chemical and petroleum). usually, for spm leavers, plis3 check the utp website under ADMISSIONS to apply online.n if im not mistaken,petronas also offer for medical course but its really2 tough 2get it.

PROS
- You would most probably have your job secured in PETRONAS, but only IF you got CGPA of 3.00 and above after your final semester.
- Speaking of PETRONAS scholar in UTP, your hostel and tuition fees are fully sponsored, while the JPA & MARA scholar have to pay the hostel fees by their own. Hey, JPA & MARA got a rise in their scholars recently, but I haven’t heard a news from ESU about it.
- Speaking of UTP, the degree are fully recognised by most multinational companies, such as Shell, Schlumberger, Exxon Mobil and others. That’s the fact as 99% of graduates would get their jobs in less than a year, unless your CGPA is quite bad.
CONS
- Have to admit, , starting this year (Jan 2007 intake), those who get PETRONAS scholarship, WOULD NOT GETTING JPA SCHOLARSHIP, but for there are some people managed to slip on MARA scholarship.- Currently, scholar money for JPA & MARA would be higher than PETRONAS, the PETRONAS kids would be jealous hearing bout this.

- The assessor would ask you to introduce yourself and you will be asked the reason you take up the course. Another thing, you may also change the choice of your course, but TPK wouldn’t advise you to do that.
- Then, just start talking about your role and your ideas to solve the case study. There are some times that the assessors would ask some head-cracking questions, the key is be confident, don’t get terrified with the question.
- Try to give ideas that are creative and intelligent enough. TPK means that, think out of the box, kids
GROUP
- The real games begin. The group interview will be conducted in forum style. So, it’s important for you to have your defensive words to defend your ideas. If you can’t, you’re out of the game.
- Try to be a leader, not a dominator in the group interview. The means of becoming a leader is try to lead a discussion in a mannered way

that is slightly wrong.if petronas only eager to find the the most excelence one, there are thousands of students who obtain straight a’s..that is the point why petronas called the applicants to attend for their educamp.they need a well-rounded student,who can be both practical and creative in a critical situation..at first when i attend the educamp, i felt so terrible as i have to mix with students from boarding school,MRSM and anywhere else but i am only student from kampong..i felt so humble that time..the only thing that i can tell u,it is not so hard to get that scholarship..u need to be confident,(but never be over confident),learn to accept others point,do not be too dominant,be cool and know how to attract the assessor..keep to be in this forum,and learn from the one who had attend the educamp,use their skills and experiences,i know u will be able to imagine the educamp session before u go for it..but before that, u have to get at least 2A for bahasa melayu,and at least 2A for add math,physics,chemistry,math, and english-this one is for engineering programme,i’m not very sure for technology programme.

the next intake is julai intake,but i’m not sure when exactly the application will be advertised,jus stay alert and be patient..what i can tell u,petronas is not searching for the one who only rely on facts and notes,but the one that can be practical when facing a critical situation.the biggest assets are your mind and your emotion as well..they want the one who able to convince others and have good communication skill..they hate a dominator, but waiting for a hero..mind other’s opinion,be a good presenter and make sure u prepare your mind with critical situation that require u to think out of the box…

Hi, I’m 2007 STPM candidates, I just get my result yesterday, 11 MARCH 2008. My result is 2A 2 A-. May I know whether am i available for this scholarship? Or it is open for SPM’s candidates only? I hope I’ll get reply as soon as possible because many things to do these days. Sorry for any inconvenience that i caused. Thanks.

How come I can’t apply online at http://spmonline.petronas.com.my? It’s said the website is currently under maintanence. I thought the application was supposed to be opened by yesterday already (12 March 2008).

cause it wasnt stated very clearly. 18th march might just be the closing date for online application?

We are only aware of this Scholarship after the closing date as we did not see the advertisement in the papers both in Sabah and after 12 March 2008. Is it possible for us to apply? Please help
