A. The selection of candidates:
The selection of the candidates will be done in accordance with the following general evaluation criteria, in order to assess - in the most equitable way - various factors, which may constitute an acceptable basis for selecting the candidates, whose academic and/or professional curriculum appears valid and substantial:
· opportunity to expand and strengthen the teaching of the Italian language;
· the opportunity to assist the Italian cultural presence in some areas where, for a variety of reasons, it has not yet been possible to sustain;
· Positive outcome resulting from the granting of scholarships to candidates who have the intention and a proven capability to devote themselves, upon returning to Malaysia, to activities that would assist an improved co-operation between Italy and Malaysia.

The candidates will be selected by the Italian-Malaysian joint Committee, chaired by the First Secretary of the Embassy of Italy.

B. Each scholarship consists of:

C. Pre-requisites:

For the enrolment in University courses the knowledge of the Italian language is usually requested. Therefore, the scholarship holders have to sit for an oral Italian exam at the chosen University, normally at the beginning of September. Candidates who have already attended a course, of at least three months, at the University for Foreigners either in Perugia or in Siena, may not have to sit for this test. It is therefore advisable to include in the application proof of attendance of Italian courses at these universities.

Candidates without knowledge of Italian language can apply in the following cases:
a) Request of Italian language courses;
b) Research studies (if the letter of an Italian academic supports the application form, stating that he is available to follow the candidate in his/her own language)
c) If the University course will be preceded by a course of Italian language such as to enable the candidate to obtain a sufficient knowledge of this language and to permit him to follow the class in Italian.
d) In particular cases in which the courses are given in English (Polytechnic of Turin Master in Technology, Bocconi University Master in International Economics, etc.)

To enrol in any University course, and to attend Conservatories or Academies, candidates should provide a High School certificate (A Level). Should they wish to attend special postgraduate studies or Ph.D. in Italy, a University MA degree is required. The candidates for long-term scholarships, apart from Italian language courses, must already hold a University MA degree. To be admitted to any single University course, a certificate stating that the candidate is enrolled in a Malaysian University is required.

Age limit for candidates: 35 years old at the time of application.
No age limit for teachers of Italian language, teaching Italian courses at the moment of the application.

The study plan can be inserted in the special space in the application form or can consist of a separate attachment.
8-Medical certificate of good health (no x-rays, a simple declaration by a doctor)
9-For post-graduate studies or research, photocopies of at least two letters of reference by academic and/or State authorities, (the originals will have to be produced in case the applicant is proposed for the scholarship).
Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

The application forms will be sent to Embassy of Italy, 99 Jalan U Thant, 55000, Kuala Lumpur within 9th Mayb 2008, 1.00 pm.

2. Useful information:

At the Embassy of Italy, a file is available together with the application form and some basic information relating to the Italian education system regarding:
1. Italian language courses
2. Address of Italian Universities
3. Master or specialization courses held in English at Italian Universities.

The above mentioned list and addresses must be considered as basic tools for the candidates’ knowledge. They are not meant to be a complete description of the opportunities available for Malaysian citizens within the Italian education system.
