L’Oreal Malaysia For Women in Science Fellowships
MALAYSIAN women scientists will be celebrated, supported, encouraged and rewarded in the second edition of L’Oreal Malaysia For Women in Science Fellowships.
The fellowships are financed by L’Oreal Malaysia in partnership with the Malaysian National Commission for Unesco, Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Higher Education Ministry and Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
They emphasise and demonstrate the importance of women’s participation in the development of the sciences in today’s world.
The programme has been initiated to provide assistance, encouragement and recognition for women involved in Material Sciences research.
Those interested in applying should be PhD holders under the age of 35, pursuing research in Material Sciences.
Only three candidates will be chosen and they will receive RM20,000 each to aid them in their proposed studies.
L’Oreal Malaysia corporate communications director Tay Ai Leen said: “We believe that research drives innovation if given the right support.
“A lot of firms provide scholarships but we want to provide support for young researchers.”
One of last year’s beneficiaries, Crystale Lim Siew Ying, advised those who were interested to be confident and just go for it.
“I was apprehensive about my research on fungus,” she said.
“But since my government funding was ending soon, I submitted my research.
“I was surprised and thankful to get L’Oreal’s funding.
“It couldn’t have come in a better time,” she added.
Those interested should submit their applications using forms that can be obtained from www.loreal.com.my or from the Secretariat of the Malaysian National Commission for Unesco.
All applications must be in by Aug 15.
