DPU Scholarship Program 2008

This scholarship is provided by Democratic Pacific Union (DPU) based in Taiwan, and will allow 26 students from its member countries including Malaysia to pursue a Master or Doctoral Degree at any university in Taiwan.

(1) Master Program: Monthly Stipends: NT$30,000 for 2 years

The Vijayashanker Foundation Award for Actuarial Science

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) is pleased to
announce its first competition for grants under the Vijayashanker Foundation Award for
students interested in pursuing an undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree in the field of Actuarial Science at a regionally accredited US university in the fall of 2008.

A m ou n t an d P eriod of A w ard
The Vijayashanker Foundation will provide partial tuition scholarship up to two years in the US for this competition. Preference will be given to candidates from American Degree twinning or transfer programs (ADP) at local colleges. This award will only cover the tuition in the US.
Eligibility
To be considered for selection under this program, students shall:

  1. Possess Malaysian citizenship;
  2. Be no more than 30 years of age at the time of application;
  3. Completed at least first semester of second year of ADP;
  4. Have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.33 during ADP;
  5. Demonstrate quantitative ability through the ADP program;
  6. TOEFL and SAT requirements are based on the student’s school of choice. If your university does not require these tests for application, you are NOT required to submit the tests results to MACEE or vice versa.
  7. Students are not required to be accepted to a US university in order to apply for this scholarship, but students are REQUIRED to apply and be accepted to a US university by May 2008 in order to fully qualify for the award if they are nominated by the committee.

Assistance with university selection and application will be provided by MACEE.
The Following Individuals Are Not Eligible:

  1. Individuals who are or have already been enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an American university and who seek nomination in order to complete said program.
  2. Individuals who seek nomination in order to complete a second bachelor’s degree.

Application Procedures
1. Students can download the application form from www.macee.org.my and 5 hard copies of application must be submitted at the below address with the following
documents attached:

  • 5 CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of ADP transcript(s) for all years of academic study.
  • 5 CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of your SPM results.
  • 5 CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of admission offer from US university (if  available).
  • 5 CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of TOEFL and SAT score reports (if required by your university for admissions).
  • 2 letters of reference (at least one from an ADP professor under whom you have studied). Letter of references must be printed on a letterhead and sealed in an envelope by your referees.
  • 1 copy of Counselor Evaluation Form from your ADP coordinator or assistant coordinator. This form must be SEALED in an envelope by your ADP counselor or coordinator.
  • 5 photographs attached to the application forms.
  • 5 copies of 1 page personal statement on why you need this award, your futuregoals and your expected contributions to the development of Malaysia.

2. The completed application and supporting documents can be sent by mail or hand
delivered to MACEE, but must arrive NO LATER THAN March 28th, 2008, to be
considered. MACEE is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please
contact MACEE for further information.

3. Applications received after said date will not be processed.

4. Students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to meet an educational advisor at their college
or MACEE for admission information into US Universities.

C ompetition Timetable February 15th, 2008 – March 28th, 2008 Announcement of the competition;

Applicants meet with Commission officers for advice in selecting and applying to
appropriate institutions in the US. At this time period, students should also be
prepared to apply to the schools of their choice.
• March 28th, 2008 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF COMPLETED
APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS.
• February 2008 Evaluation of applications and short listing of students.
• April 2008 Interview by the Selection Committee.
• April 2008 Nominations by the Selection Committee presented to MACEE
Board for review and approval.
• May 2008 Announcement of the competition results.
• May-June 2008 Students receive admission decisions from the US schools
• June/July 2008 Pre-departure orientation.
• August 2008 Depart for the U.S.

Nantah Education and Research Foundation Scholarships

NANTAH Education and Research Foundation is offering post-graduate scholarships to pursue programmes at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore.

The scholarships are for science and technology, business studies and arts subjects.

Candidates can pursue these subjects at the masters or PhD level. The scholarships cover tuition fees and a monthly allowance. Applicants for the masters programme should have, preferably, at least a class ll honours degree.

Successful candidates will not be bound by the foundation.

Lions Club of Subang Jaya - FC Yap Scholarship

The Lions Club of Subang Jaya - FC Yap Scholarship Fund for UTAR under-graduates in memory of our beloved late member, Lion Yap Foo Cheow (Lion FC Yap).Lion FC Yap, a distinguished Lion, was well known for his fondness for youths and for education; and for his compassion for the less fortunate. This Scholarship Fund is to build upon the legacy created by Lion FC Yap, to continue with his works of philanthropy, and to represent a show of solidarity amongst the members of the Club.

The Club’s aim is to advance and improve the quality of life of the less fortunate, especially the youth, directly and indirectly; and to help alleviate their needs and sufferings, in the form of financial assistance for their education.

Two scholarships worth RM9,000 will be given out to deserving UTAR final year students. This is to subsidize the needy and talented students by sponsoring their tuition fees and living expenses.

Criteria To ensure that the most deserving students are selected for the scholarship awards, the following attributes will be considered:

  • Academic achievements (SPM, STPM, UTAR, etc..)
  • Financial standing of family;
  • Character of candidate;
  • Extra-curricular activities
  • Leadership qualities

Eligibility

  • Malaysians only;
  • Must not be bonded or be a recipient of any scholarship/financial assistance from other organizations or institutions;
  • Full-time under-graduate students at UTAR;

Interview
Candidates short-listed shall undergo interview(s) by members of the Scholarship Sub-committee of the Lions Club of Subang Jaya. Certificates, testimonials, documents of identity, etc should be brought along to the interview.

Taiwan Scholarship Program 2008

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia is pleased to announce the Taiwan Scholarship Program 2008. This scholarship will allow 9 Malaysians to pursue a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral Degree of their choice at any university in Taiwan starting from September 2008. The award period for each study program varies as follows:
1. Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years, monthly stipends NT$25,000
2. Master’s program: maximum 2 years, monthly stipends NT$30,000
3. Doctoral program: maximum 3 years, monthly stipends NT$30,000
4. All successful scholarship candidates can choose additional pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) for 1 year with monthly stipends NT$25,000.

Taiwan Scholarship Program 2008 provides only monthly stipends to scholarship recipients. The costs of tuition, board and lodging, books, medical insurance, airfare to Taiwan and other expenses will be defrayed by themselves. And all candidates must apply to their chosen university in Taiwan for degree program at the same time or apply to university-affiliated Chinese language centers for those who choose additional LEP Program.

Applicants must submit the following documents no later than March 31, 2008 to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, Address: LEVEL 7, MENARA YAYASAN TUN RAZAK, #200 JALAN BUKIT BINTANG, 55100 KUALA LUMPUR. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
* A completed application form for Taiwan Scholarship Program 2008
* One photocopy of passport or other certificate of nationality.
* One letter of recommendation at least
* Other documents to prove outstanding performance (optional)

Successful candidates will be required to authenticate their diploma and academic transcripts through related authorities. Successful candidates must submit their admission letter issued by their chosen university or language center to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia to finally confirm their status of being awarded scholarship.

Shell Malaysia Scholarship

The Shell Scholarship(Overseas & Local) is now open for application. The closing date is 31st March 2008.

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

* Successfully completed your SPM, STPM, O-Levels, A-Levels & Diploma
* Excellent academic achievement with emphasis in English
* Demonstration of leadership skills through active participation in extra-curricular activities. e.g. societies and clubs, sports, etc.
* Strong academic record and realistic expectation of a high CGPA or its equivalent

Preferred disciplines for scholarships include:

* Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical)
* Sciences (Geosciences, Chemistry and Physics)
* Business Administration / Economics
* Finance & Accounting
* IT (includes Business/ Management IT)

Master of Science (MsC) in Geosciences
Candidate must posses a good Honours Degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university.

Language Requirements

Applicants who are Malaysian citizens must possess a credit in Bahasa Melayu at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or an equivalent qualification. Foreign and local students are required to have English proficiency in both written and spoken by the meeting one the following requirements:

* Minimum TOEFL score of 550 OR
* Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 OR
* Minimum ELTS score of Band-6 OR
* Minimum MUET score of Band-4.

Applicants who are native English speakers or holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

How to apply

Applications may be submitted provisionally based on latest semester results (for Matriculation students) or Trial Examination results (for STPM students). This may be done through schools or individually.
