Shell Scholarship 2009
The Shell Malaysia Scholarship Awards are now open for application. The scholarship is awarded to Malaysian students for pursuing full-time undergraduate studies (1st degree course) tenable at recognized universities in Malaysia or overseas, and Pre-University studies in Malaysia.
In addition, Shell also awards 2 scholarships to study Msc in Geoscience with Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
Eligibility
Students who have completed their SPM/O-Level, STPM/A-Level/Foundation Year/Diploma or currently in their final semester of Matriculation studies or in the University (IPTA/IPTS) who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the Shell Malaysia Scholarship Awards:
Excellent academic achievement with emphasis in English
Demonstration of leadership skills through active participation in extra-curricular activities. e.g. societies and clubs, sports, etc.
Strong academic record and realistic expectation of a high CGPA or its equivalent
Preferred disciplines for scholarships include:
Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical)
Sciences (Geosciences, Chemistry and Physics)
Business Administration / Economics
Finance & Accounting
IT (includes Business/ Management IT)
Master of Science (MsC) in Geosciences
Candidate must posses a good Honours Degree or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university.
Language Requirements
Applicants who are Malaysian citizens must possess a credit in Bahasa Melayu at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or an equivalent qualification. Foreign and local students are required to have English proficiency in both written and spoken by the meeting one the following requirements:
Minimum TOEFL score of 550 OR
Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 OR
Minimum ELTS score of Band-6 OR
Minimum MUET score of Band-4.
Applicants who are native English speakers or holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

We are now accepting scholarship application. All applications must be submitted online. Please submit your application before March 31st 2009.

hello! was wondering if someone can help explain to thick-headed me how to complete my application.
i downloaded the form but do i fill it in by hand or on the word doc? coz the instructions on actually HANDING IN the form are a little blur…. :s
plus when i click on “submit application” after registering it tells me im not eligible…… HELP im so confused!

i’m sorry sir, but the facts given here and in the shell application site do not seem to correlate.
sir, can you please explain on the eligibility for spm leavers because this is what i read in the shell website:
You are eligible to apply with Shell as a Student or Graduate candidate, if:
* you are studying at a university
* you are approaching the completion of a Bachelors, Masters or Advanced degree
* you recently obtained one of these degrees

I would like to give brief on my background. I got Bs.c in petroleum engineering (reservior engineering), then i worked with Geoservices company around 4 years, and now i doing master at UTM university in management technology, I will get master degree in the may 2009. I would like to tell you that I will be very happy if i get this achance with petroleum leader as shell.

As pointed out above, the online application form seems a bit confusing and mis-leading. The information states that SPM 2008 candidates are eligible, but the online application form seems to not accept SPM 08 students. I have tried emailing Shell Malaysia but have not received a reply in one week.
Does anyone know if SPM 08 students are indeed eligible?

Everybody…i got the answer! Last week i went to the Shell Headquarter and asked for consultation regarding the Shell Scholarships 2009. Before that, I also had the same confusion as your. But now, everything is clear~
1. SPM 2008 candidates are NOT eligible for the application. Those who wish to apply using SPM 2008 result have to wait for the Shell Scholarships in year 2010. The scholarships are only open to those STPM or equivalent holder with previous SPM qualification with at least 10 1As or currently enrolled in university with CGPA of 3.8 or above.
2. The preferred universities by Shell are Ivy League universities and Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, UCL and Imperial College.
3. The application must be submitted ONLINE. NO paper application is accepted.

based on the application form, spm 2008 candidates are eligible to apply.but the information stated in the website is totally the opposite.besides,we are supposed to submit the form online but there are so many documents needed to be handed in together.i just don’t know how and what to do now =/

do i need to get myself in a university before i apply for the scholarship?? i’m askin coz da form is requiring the name of the university that i’m studying in.. but my SPM results aye yet to be relased..can i apply for this scholarship??

I too, am an SPM 2008 candidate and is interested in shell scholarship. Though, I can’t submit my form since I can’t find the place to submit it online…

it is PRETTY OBVIOUS that the person who post this has stated clearly that…
1) PRE U STUDIES IN MALAYSIA.
this means that,NO. Students who only completed spm will only get a local scholarship.no USA/UK colleges for you.
2) YES,SPM STUDENTS CAN APPLY FOR IT.
this is because, i am the shell pre u scholarship holder. i completed spm in 2008,& got the scholarship in may/june 2009
3) NO,shell doesnt offer places in ivy league unis!
shell offers places (for degree) in uk unis such as durham,leeds,etc.
@puteri,u can always visit shell’s website & they will tell you the dateline.
